What is Ortho Evra used for?
Ortho Evra is the first transdermal (skin) patch approved for birth control.
How does Ortho Evra prevent pregnancy?
The weekly prescription patch releases norelgestromin (a progestin hormone), and ethinyl estradiol (an estrogen hormone), through the skin into the blood stream to prevent pregnancy.
When was Ortho Evra approved?
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Ortho Evra, manufactured by Ortho McNeil, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, in November 2001.
How many women use Ortho Evra?
Over 4 million women have used the patch since its introduction.
Has Ortho Evra been linked to any side effects?
Unfortunately, yes. In November 2005, Ortho McNeil issued a warning to millions of women revealing that the patch exposes them to significant amounts of estrogen and may put them at greater risk of suffering a serious cardiovascular event, such as a stroke, heart attack or blood clot.
Have any deaths been linked to the patch’s use?
In April 2004, an 18-year-old New York fashion student died while using the Ortho Evra patch. According to officials for the FDA and Ortho McNeil, the death was the first linked to the contraceptive patch. Information from the Medical Examiner's Office indicates the woman’s death was caused by a blood clot. Over a dozen more deaths have been linked to the Ortho Evra patch since then.
I have experienced health problems after using the Ortho Evra patch. Should I contact an attorney?
Perhaps. It may be important for you to contact an attorney who can help you protect your legal rights. Only a licensed attorney can evaluate whether you have a case that is worth pursuing. Keep in mind however that there may be time limits (Statute of Limitations) which impact on your ability to sue.
How much does an attorney evaluation cost in these types of cases?
Nothing! A lawyer associated with this website will evaluate your case free of charge. If a participating attorney familiar with Ortho Evra litigation agrees to handle your case, you will owe no attorneys fees unless an attorney recovers money for you.
How do I submit my case for a free evaluation?
Simply click on "submit your case" and complete the online intake form. An attorney will evaluate your case and respond to you via email.
