Lawsuits against the makers of the Ortho Evra birth control patch are mounting as more women, many of them in their teens and twenties, become victims of strokes, heart attacks and serious complications arising from blood clots while using the Ortho Evra birth control patch.
The number of lawsuits filed on behalf of sufferers of serious side effects resulting from the use of the patch is currently around two dozen, but the number may grow much higher, according to some attorneys and medical experts familiar with lawusits involving defective or dangerous drugs.
Before the FDA warned in November of increased risk of stroke, heart attack and blood clots with use of the ortho evra birth control patch (which reportedly has 60% higher estrogen levels than other effective methods of birth control), many women were unaware that their sudden health problems may be a result of the use of the patch. Some of those women who began to suffer serious side effects may have unknowingly continued to use the patch.
Attorneys and spokespersons for Johnson & Johnson, the company which manufactures the Ortho Evra Birth Control Patch, have refused to comment on the lawsuits.
